To close out the present funding cycle, January 1, 2011 to June 30, 2011, it is imperative that coalitions submit their Reimbursement Request Forms for each project, with corresponding receipts, to your Coalition Coordinator no later than July 31, 2011. The appropriate form(s) are available on this website and may be filled out electronically and saved to your computer. If you have any problems accessing the forms please contact your coalition coordinator.

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has announced the 2011 Competition for Community-Based Substance Abuse Initiatives, a program that will provide training, technical assistance and a total of $150,000 in grants to 30 coalitions in the most economically distressed areas of Appalachia.

Each UNITE Coalition is eligible to receive up to $5,000.

Grants must be targeted to performance-oriented local projects that use evidence-based approaches to prevention, intervention or treatment. Successful coalitions will participate in program activities intended to support and expand local substance abuse partnerships.

Applicants must be located in and serve one of the 196 counties that ARC has designated as “distressed” or “at-risk” for 2011 and/or 2012. Letters of interest must be submitted no later than Monday, May 16, and winners will be announced by May 27.

A reminder that coalition Action Plans for funding during the second half of 2011 should be submitted to your coalition coordinator no later than Monday, May 2.

Just a reminder that Coalition Action Plans for the 2nd funding cycle (July 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011) will be due no later than Monday, May 2.

A slight change has been made to the Coalition Reimbursement form so that you might identify how your project or program implemented drug prevention and awareness components. Both the Word and PDF forms have been updated. Also, a change was made on page 8 of the expenditure guide to increase allowable funding for National Archery in the Schools to $1,000. These changes are in effect for the first funding cycle of 2011.
